I can’t take full credit for this because I watched an amazing Youtube video that I will link at the bottom of this post. But sometimes you watch a youtube video and they make it look so easy and then you try it for yourself and it’s the hardest thing you’ve ever done in your life. I’m here to tell you that this was NOT the case. This garland was about 12 feet tall and it took me about an hour to make (and fifteen minutes of that included me trying to hang it to my wall). Here is a step-by-step- tutorial on how to make an awesome and easy balloon arch for your next party! All items I used will be linked at the bottom of the post!
1. Start by blowing up your balloons in all different sizes.
I bought a few bags from Hobby Lobby and I had quite a few left over. I’d say I used about 50-75 balloons in total, and I bought about 100-150. I also used an electric balloon pump for $20 at Hobby Lobby.
2. Next tie 2 balloons together.
Do this with all the balloons, trying to use similar sizes together and opposite colors to make more variation.
3. Now twist your 2 balloons with 2 other balloons to make a clump of four.
Do this with all of your balloons until they are all in clumps of 4.
4. Once you have all of your balloons in clumps, bring 2 clumps together and tie them with a 160 or 260 balloon.
(aka long skinny ones that you use to make balloon animals with). It helps to wrap the 260’s around a couple of balloons before bringing it toward the other clump of balloons.
5. You will keep going with this and tie all of your BIGGEST balloons together to make your arch or garland.
6. Once all of your big balloons are attached, you’ll go through and attach your small balloon clumps the same way in places where you can see your ties inside the garland.
7. If you’ve purchased any foil balloons or shaped balloons,
use double-sided tape to attach them to your garland, or if they have a hole for a string you can use a ribbon or thread to attach these balloons. (for example the bone and stars on my arch in picture)
8. Now you’re ready to attach! Loop a string or ribbon around parts of your garland and either tack it to the wall or use command hooks.
(Command hooks are better because they don’t damage your wall, but if you have textured walls like I do they don’t always stick as well)
And voila! You have a balloon arch!
